This lens is great. But I already knew that. I have owned it before.

This Old (but still for sale) Lens: Pentax SMCP-FA 50mm f/1.4

A fantastic lens.

Technically I do not need it. I already have a Pentax AF nifty fifty. Have had it for years.

This Old Lens: Pentax SMC F 50mm f/1.7 (AF)

And it is great.

So my justification for obtaining another?

Nonsense in two parts.

1. The f/1.7 has a crack in the housing and I like the MZ-5 so much I wanted a pristine 50mm lens to pair with it.

This Old Camera: Pentax MZ-5. I’ll make sure to keep this one.

1. A Spinal Tap-ian, but this one goes to f/1.4.

Will also make for an even better 75mm full frame equivalent portrait lens for the Pentax K-x I picked up recently.

Thoughts.

There was no surprise here.

I expected it to be great. And it is great.

At little more than $100 it is a no brainer.
