Analog Therapy, This Old Lens Test, & A Car Show: Vivitar 28-70mm f/3.5-5.8 MC Macro – Canon T70 – Fujifilm 400.
As stated in a recent post…
…a friend gifted me some film gear. Amongst the gear was a couple of zoom lenses.
- Vivitar FD 28-70mm f/3.5-4.8 Macro
- SIGMA FD 80-200mm f/4.5-5.6 w/ case
This is where I must make an admission.
Somewhere along the line I have become an f/4 or faster constant aperture zoom lens snob. So, while appreciating the kind gift of gear, I was not initially keen on using these lenses.
Then I got over myself. I decided to see what these lenses would do, and I am glad I did.
This here post is about the Vivitar FD 28-70mm f/3.5-4.8 Macro.
The film.
Fujifilm 400 developed with Cinestill CS41.
The camera.
I like looking at and holding the classic Canon AE1 Program. I prefer using the T70.
The reason is simple. Program Tele mode which leans towards shooting a lens as wide open as possible.
The occasion.
An intern I mentor at my day job…
…told me about a car show this weekend. He planned to have a car in the show. Count me in.
The pics.
First test pics while leaving the parking deck to get a bit used to the handling.
Arrival
Found my way onto the field.
Thoughts.
This lens is cuss word impressive.
While not a 1:1 macro id does provide a pleasing macro adjacent performance. Witness the Cobra and GT-R grill close up images above. Great clarity. Great colors with this film. Quite sharp.
I am really glad I got this lens and that I tried this lens. I will definitely be using it again.
Also a great event and great cars.
Happy capturing.
