Scenes Seen / Pics Before & After NYC GR 30th Anniversary GR Ambassador Panel Discussion: RICOH GRIIIx. #ricohgriiix #grsnaps @ricoh_gr_official @ricoh_gr_us

For the full trip down RICOH GR and GR-ish memory lane and how I ended up attending this GR Ambassador Panel speaking event I offer my prior post if you are so inclined.

This post? This post here?

This post is about the whole reason why I adore the RICOH GRIIIx. Candid and on the go photography.

Yes. It is a powerful tool that is perfectly capable of creating results that rival other more traditional (read that larger with an EVF and interchangeable lenses) image capturing solutions. For example at a wedding last year I:

  1. Left my backup SD cards in my camera bag at the front of the venue, instead of having them in my side cargo pant pocket like usual.
  2. Was using two high MP beasts for my main cameras.
  3. Got a little slap happy with the shutter up to right before the bride and groom parent dances were announced.
  4. Realized I managed to fill up the cards on both main cameras at that moment.
  5. This was happening now. No time to get the backup SD cards and I needed a solution, stat.

Whee!

Luckily I always carry the GR in my pocket along with a small LED light panel for back up and detail pics. The macro feature comes in real handy.

So I let the cannons hang at my sides in the harness and pulled the GRIIIx out of my pocket.

I love this little camera.

…and then they took a break after this and I scrambled for my backup SD cards and vowed I would never let this happen again.

And we are back to our regularly scheduled programming in 3, 2, 1…

Street pics. NYC. Cool.

As should be no surprise to anyone the GRIIIx proved a perfect tool for the task.

On the way to the event.

This is where image capturing temporarily ceased. We had ourselves a run in with a very NYC experience individual who threatened to be very aggressive. Mumbling trash talk to no one knows who and some shadow boxing were involved. He was jacking thin air up. I wished him no harm but my photography took a backseat as I worked out my theoretical pugilistic strategies in the event that talk turned into action. This went on for a while. At one point I made the “I have not been here in a minute” rookie mistake of briefly making direct eye contact. Quickly regained the old thousand foot stare and eventually he ambled on to the next car to worry them.

Anyhoo. Next came the event and these are the photos taken after it concluded.

Accidental selfie taken on my way out of the RICOH GR storefront.

Then I headed to nearby Washington Square Park since I had such a good time the last time I went there.
