“If you’re not invited to the party, throw your own.” -Diahann Carroll @OWN_MasterClass

New to watching OWN, as my demographic of one skews away from talk shows, altered reality and formula comedies, but I have been drawn to Master Class. I have also enjoyed Iyanla’s show. Much more appropriate format for her than a talk show it would seem. Master Class is not a Biography grade invasive telling of all truths (I used to binge watch Bio. I find real stories so much more interesting than ones crafted or manipulated… Unless they are crafted to include explosions, special effects, loads of laughs and car chases that is.), but instead offers each individual an opportunity to present the best of who they are and what they have to offer which I find refreshing. Some have made a larger imprint upon me than others, but this evening I summoned Diahann Carroll’s installment on the DVR and found it prescient, and good watching for youth of all ages. There are messages of self definition and self determination that resonate well with my own upbringing and that which I wish to impart to my own children. We will be watching it together. The quote above, and even moreso the story associated with it struck me as especially inspiring. In order to move forward with purpose, we must first understand where we have come from. And also this towards the end:

“Forgiveness is…  It’s an incredible thing. It gives freedom.” -Diahann Carroll

So now I have another channel to DVR other than BBC America and Velocity by Discovery when I am not watching my kids’ shows with them.
