Scenes Seen: A Joint 100 Men In Black/Southern H.S. Spring Concert.

The chorus started us off, 100 Men In Black Make Chorus Ensemble did a few songs, and we did some songs together. Most were breezy affairs for me. I am fortunate in that most songs come easy to me. I learn my part quickly and it is pretty much burned into the hard drive forever. Songs I have learned literal decades ago now and have not sung since I can start up at the first note without a prompt or note given and sing through to the end. Even when singing Latin phonetically, like Sanctus, or even German also like Psalite. And I have not sung those songs since my time with Greater Centennial Choir in Mt. Vernon, NY years ago. Famed voice coach Denise Woods informed me earlier this year during a vocal class that is is not normal. I had no idea. But one song stood out as particularly challenging.
I like challenges. And now that I have learned this song it has been permanently added to my hard drive also.
The stars of the show?
Director Marlon West and this youth chorus. They were amazing. So polished.
This was not the only song that I once found challenging this evening. Another song I led was also a doozy. It was not as intricate as Time, but I had a dual role. Baritone and lead and I have to switch between each. It was not recorded this night but here it is from a recent concert, “Every Time I Feel The Spirit”.
For the record I am currently in the baritone section, and I often lead songs as a tenor (this one bounces around a bit between parts and for this one I took the high tenor part), but for the record my happy place is the bass section. That is the section I always sang in back in NYC… when I was not doing the occasional tenor lead. Marlon asked me to help in the baritone section with 100 Men In Black so there I reside currently.
Anyhoo. Music covered here are the pics.
Joint chorus rehearsal night. The rig.
On the way. There will be repeats.
Arrived for rehearsal.
To close out the evening I switched to this following lens on the ride home.
Ok. Next up is the night of the concert. The rig.
Ok. That is all I got of the concert. That is a good thing. I was either listening or singing. Cool. The ride home… There will be repeats.
Welp. That is a wrap.
Had a great time with this crossroads of my two major forms pf therapy.
Happy capturing.
