Analog Therapy/Film Test: REFLX LAB 800 Tungsten – Rollei 35AF.

Subtitle: Forced Analog Therapy.

That subtitle.

Life has been lifing all over the place lately. If I am not careful, I will sit and marinate in it.

Not good.

I have got to get out.

The occasion.

Bought a few films to try recently.

Decided to get the heck out of the house to try another.

The film.

Developed at home with Cinestill CS41, as usual.

The camera.

A camera that I adore, the recently released, by film camera standards, Rollei 35AF.

Rollei 35AF

To some, the even more recent Lomography MC-A may have stolen some of its thunder, but this is still a solid offering. While not as operationally clinical or as solid feeling as the Lomography MC-A (That feels weird to say, but it is true. Lomography, more known for quirky cameras, really raised their game with the MC-A.), the 35AF still has its perks. While a bit light in the pants, the look, size, and form factor (reminiscent of the OG Rollei cameras)…

…do it for me.

Plus, it is hard to argue with the shot count. That is a camera that resonates with me. I have put more than 30 rolls of film through that camera. It has an excellent lens and has delivered one properly exposed and focused photo after another throughout. Even at its elevated price point, it is a solid option.

Which is “better”? This is not that type of blog post. This is a whatever floats your boat proposition. Choose what you wish and have at it.

The location.

Nearby small “downtown” area. Had planned on making more than one stop, but quickly burned through the roll at the first location. A common occurrence with this camera.

The pics.

Thoughts.

I like it. Comparable to other 800T films I have used before.

Rollei 35AF
Cinestill 800T.
Contax G1 - Zeiss 28mm f/2.8
RETO Amber 800T.

I do have to note the red line that appears in some photos. Have never seen this before with this camera, so I am inclined to believe it is the film. Perhaps. Regardless, this alone would not stop me from using the film again. Just something to keep in mind. I am not looking for perfection when I shoot film. Looking for a distraction, so my tolerance for imperfections is very high.

Welp. That is about it.

Another successful analog therapy/film test session. A fine distraction from the madness.

Happy capturing.
