9/11 Memorial – Gibsonville Fire Station 28: Film Edit.
Cesar was looking out once again.
Sidebar: Don’t fret when those you expect to be there… are not. Sometimes your tribe will be those you just meet. Be authentic, and they will find you.
Cesar invited me along on a photo assignment that featured a recent local 9/11 memorial installation.
An easy yes.
This event resonated with me on two personal levels.
- We are touring a volunteer Fire Department and my Father was a volunteer fireman in the town I grew up in. I spent many hours in our local firehouse during my childhood. He drove the firetruck and they honored him when he passed away a few years ago.
- I was in Manhattan on 9/11.
That was the setting. On to the film gear.
Camera.
A favorite of mine. A solid SLR option.
As far as cameras go, it is no better or worse than any number of its better SLR contemporaries. Where it does differ from many older film cameras, SLR or not is twofold.
- Relatively inexpensive for a full-featured film camera.
- We are talking less than a couple of hundred dollars for a clean working example, not the many hundreds or over a thousand or even more for other, more “pedigreed” or sought-after options. And for that money you get a full featured SLR with access to…
- Impressive glass.
- Do not sleep on Minolta glass. There are practical lenses available at an affordable asking price, sure. Most SLRs do. But there are also some pretty special lenses that are still relatively affordable. Exhibit A…
Lens.
Put them together and fun ensues.
