X100VI Accessory Intro: @Viltrox.usa Wide & Tele Conversion Lenses for Fujifilm X100.

Subtitle: Neewer has been one-upped by Viltrox.

I have a well-documented appreciation for Neewer gear.

And last up was the X100 teleconverter.

X100VI - Neewer 1.5x Tele LS-61

What the heck is that? I am glad I imagined that you asked.

A teleconverter.

Why do I want one?

They exist.

That simple. Tell the truth and shame the devil.

More?

In theory, ($70 for the adapter above. While resonably priced, the Viltrox kit demands higher expectations.) it expands the usefulness of a fixed lens camera.

Wrote a post about it.

My take?

Nice. Great for the price. Hard to argue with $99. Even less if you catch a discount code on the Neewer website like I did.

Why not the one that Fujifilm sells?

Cool! Sign me up! No electronics and all glass so it can’t possibly cost that mu… <checks price> $384.00! Surely that is all I need to use it, right? Nope. Just for fun, to use it, one also needs to order the $46.35 adapter.

So… carry the two… $430.35 all in.

For something with no electronics.

Nope.

This is when I asked the internets:

What else ya’ got?

And it answered with less expensive options.

$149.

$109.

But are they any good? To be clear, at these prices they would have to utterly awful for me not to give them a try. But I wanted to know what to expect. So off I went to Google land, and that is when I saw it.

Neewer! My old friend. How are you?

$99 you say… with the adapter ring included…

and a case…

and a 30% off code on the page at the time of purchase? (As of this post, there is a 25% code. But if they have no code at all, check back in a few days based on past experience.)

You sly dog. Of course, I will take one. Thank you.

It does the gaping glass maw thing out front.

Not nearly as dramatic out back.

What does it do?

Turns an effective 35mm-ish full frame focal length to approximately 50mm.

So… Pictures… Any good?… Yep. Here are my day one sample photos, followed by some thoughts.

So… We are good, right? Well…

I went on to use it a bit more.

But a problem arose.

When focusing closely, the camera lens would fault. What appears to be happening is that when the lens moves forward to focus closely, it is coming into contact with the back of the Neewer adapter. Sure, it is remedied by cycling the power. But this is not good.

What if my effort to save a buck ends up damaging the camera’s focus mechanism?

No bueno.

So I stopped using it.

And it is the wrong color.

I left it at that. Compelling. Probably safe to use. But not worth the risk for me.

Left it at that.

Then I saw it. Another favorite brand of mine, Viltrox, entered the chat.

After making some great Sony FE lenses, including my favorite product of 2025.

Could they have done it again?

Initial signs are good. They seem to have gone beyond simple adapters and made actual competitors for the native Fujifilm adapters. Viltrox…

  • Made both silver and black variants.
  • Made them look the part.
    • These feel high quality, where the Neewer feels toy like by comparison.
  • Made both a tele and a wide adapter.
  • Copied Fujifilm’s hat trick of communicating the lens adapter to the camera.
    • Thus, the focal length is in the EXIF, and IBIS will adjust as needed.

  • While costing more than the Neewer option, they are far less expensive than the Fujifilm options.
  • And remember, unlike the Neewer and native Fujifilm converters, the Viltrox conversion lenses are all of one. The Fujifilm lenses require that you spend an additional $54.95.

So, after debating it for a bit, I decided to order a set. And they arrived.

(First) thoughts.

These are nice. Well built, and they look good in use. Close, but does not match the finish of the camera exactly, but anyone close enough to notice needs to back up a few steps.

The tele adapter is a bit large, but not offensively so.

The wide adapter looks quite natural and would take a second glance to notice it is attached.

Autofocus is not impacted at all. Performs as well as with no adapter attached.

After a quick test, I can confirm that, like the Fujifilm lenses, the camera accurately reflects the effective focal length in the EXIF data, unlike the Neewer, which does not update the data when attached.

First up, no adapter. (~35mm FF Equiv)

Viltrox TCL-X100VI (Wide Conversion Lens)

With the wide adapter. (~28mm FF Equiv)

Viltrox WCL-X100VI (Wide Conversion Lens)

With the tele adapter. (~50mm FF Equiv)

X100VI - No Converter

First, let me get some housekeeping out of the way.

Let me revisit questions from the Neewer post.

Am I saying that the Fujifilm option is not worth the additional expense?

No. Yes.

I see no significant compromises here.

Is the Fujifilm adapter better?

Even having never used it, I am certain it is.… I doubt it. Further…

Is it 6.15x 2.11x better (For the Tele adapter. 2.5x more for the wide adapter.) for me?

(Still) No.

I do not intend to use this for “serious” work.

I would happily use these Viltrox lenses for “serious” work.

Well done, Viltrox.

Images.

For this intro post, I will share a few product pics after the close of this post. Sample images with the converters will be shared in future posts on each adapter.

Happy capturing.
