Analog Therapy/Story Time Part 2: Wife Escavated My Work Desk And Discovered A Variable ND Filter.

First, a cut and paste from the original post.

Background:

I recently misplaced my work ID. My wonderful wife helped by clearing my office desk as we searched for it, after she watched me just shuffle things about. Did not find it. Fortunately, it was easily replaced. For certain, it is in the house somewhere. Which means it will eventually reveal itself now that I have replaced it.

That was a couple of weeks ago.

Then, a day or so ago, I noticed an unopened package she left on my desk… No idea why I had not noticed it before.

So I opened it. I had questions for myself, but no answers. The interwebs helped with the first question.

When the heck did I order this? Welp.

So a gift to myself from last year.

What camera did I intend to use this with?

No idea.

The last question is an easy one.

Why?

Film: To use fast glass wide open in broad daylight with cameras that have modest shutter speeds.

Exhibit A.

Digital: To bring down the shutter speeds below the HSS threshold to shoot full power in broad daylight.

So which is it? Film or digital.

This was easy. I could not identify a single digital lens with a 55mm filter thread. Located two SLRs with fast nifty fifty adjacent lenses.

So film it is.

Thoughts.

I am glad I have it, even though I have no idea why I bought it.

I am definitely taking this out to play with one of the SLRs in broad daylight.

And a post will follow.

So bottom line… A year ago me provided blog post fodder for today me. Thank you a year ago me.

End cut and paste.

So. To use fast glass wide open in broad daylight with a film camera that has a modest shutter speed, as compared to digital.
