Analog Therapy… Film Has Me Out Here Hiking: Rollei 35AF – Kentmere Pan 400. @gary228ho @rollei35af #kentmere200
As stated in an Instagram post yesterday:
These things will have you out here doing stuff that you do not enjoy at all until you run out of film. Last exposure hit… Wait a minute… I don’t even like walking trails. How much further until the end? This is some foolishness.
How did I end up here? I am glad I imagined you asked.
I was seeking a bit of analog therapy.
Camera? Easy.
I covered a lot in my original Rollei 35AF review post linked here.
Film? A roll of Kentmere Pan 400 I stumbled upon will do. Fitting since I had such a good time with their newer Kentmere Pan 200 recently.
Location?
I was initially stumped. After a quick Google search I settled on giving a local park another try. The first visit was a bust, but after looking at the website more closely I clearly missed much of the park. Of interest to me was a small waterfall. So I struck out. And I found the waterfall… and a 1.7 mile trail.
Thought, what is the big deal? I have covered that distance on our treadmill. But my treadmill does not have hills and rocks… Or humidity. As stated above, all was fine until I ran out of film. Then I was just ready to get out of there. Could have gone back and retraced my steps to the car, but I decided to soldier on.
Developed at home using Cinestill df96, here are the resulting images, followed by some thoughts.
I did start the roll earlier in the week. First pic was taken when advancing the film to 0 Monday morning, followed by a few pics at rehearsal Monday night.
I write off the light leaks to user error when loading the film.
On to the park pics from last night.
Thoughts.
When I left the company of my giant pet mosquito at the park, I was a flop-sweat-covered cranky mess. But after I got home, got myself sorted, developed the film, and saw the scans, I was good.
Did I mutter words not found in scripture when I lost faith that I was on the path out of there?
Yes.
Did the thought cross my mind that if I hear one banjo I will be setting a landspeed record out of there?
Also yes.
But it was definitely worth it. I love these images.
A great camera, with a lens that is a star all by itself.
A fine film and a fine venue.
Another successful analog therapy session with a side of accidental cardio thrown in.
Happy capturing.
