(Half Frame Diptych Heavy) Analog Therapy: Pentax 17 – Flic Film 800.
I like this camera.
But after another new to market camera showed up…
…it has been neglected. Not fair, really. It is a fine camera. What mainly distracted me is two features:
- Autofocus.
- Aperture priority shooting.
The zone focus of the Pentax 17 is no great chore. It just requires more attention. If you forget what you last set the focus and/or shooting mode to, it is easy to lose a frame here and there. But that is where the Pentax 17 shines. With twice the exposures available to you, who cares about a lost frame here or there? Plus the Pentax 17 has one ace up its sleeve.
AUTO mode.
Hyperfocal so beyond a few feet everything is in focus and it sorts out the exposure as it sees fit. BUt the Pentax 17 has another secret weapon.
Lens.
The lens is phenomenal. So much so that it single handedly puts to rest any concerns about detail lost due to the small bit of film surface it has access to. The lens is so sharp that plenty of detail is maintained. This is proven out by the few pics below that I did not present as diptychs. Speaking of diptychs.
Diptychs.
This is definitely my favorite part of this camera. It’s great fun attacking the world with a two images to capture a scene mindset.
The film.
Looked over my menagerie of film stock and chose Flic Film Aurora 800.
Why? Dunno. I will say that the ISO 800 speed to give the humble aperture spec a better chance in shadowy situations.
The where.
Took it to lunch with my better half at a local diner adjacent to an abandoned hotel and ppol. Ran through Duke Gardens with it as I tested two new CY lenses (More on this later.) that just arrived. No images captured while doing yardwork at my parents’ house for my Mom. And used it at other points in between the remainder of the day.
Developed at home with Cinestill CS41 here are the images. Some are half frame diptychs and some are not. I like them all just the same.
Yesterday.
Another successful analog therapy session.
Happy capturing.
