Analog Therapy: Rollei 35AF – Fujifilm 400.

The new arrival pixie dust has started to clear with the Rollei 35AF, but I will keep it brief here since I put up a formal review post. My thoughts all pretty much align with the “So…” post I wrote a while back.

Rollei 35AF

The film this go around is my second roll of Fujifilm 400 through this camera. A solid and consistent color film. Developed with Cinestill CS41.

Occasion. Nothing of note. Killing a roll of film while out and about. The camera performed perfectly. So competent it had me trying for pics that few cameras could have pulled off, but it still managed a few of them. Here are the frames that survived my impatience and hubris.

Rollei 35AF
An example of hubris. Took this pic quickly. Was crooked and required cropping, but enough detail remained for a pic I am happy with. I believe I used Auto +1 for the exposure setting.

One of many focus and recompose pics where I used the duration of the shutter half press focus pull to confirm that I was not focusing on the background.

Held low and once again used the duration of the shutter half press to confirm focus.

Literal hip shots as I held the camera against my right leg, guesstimated the framing, and fired away. I am very happy with the result.

Thoughts on the film.

I like it. A regular that always keep on hand.

Thoughts on the camera.

Have heard some comments on the AF noise. No. It is not silent, but I have found that the ambient noise in most scenarios is to mask the sound. For the last pic above, no cars were moving, no horns were blaring, nor was there any audible engine noise, but I could not hear the AF or shutter noises while it was held at my side. I was not even sure I had taken the photo until I checked the shutter button and saw that it was pushed it waiting on me to wind the film on.

Welp, that is about it.

Happy capturing.
