Sony A7C II Part 4: A Canon Lens & Sample Images… You Know I Had To Go To Duke Gardens.
Warning: Like part 1 this is a long one and makes little sense. Run now. You have been warned. Still there? Buckle up.
Preface: All brands are great yadda, yadda, yadda. This just so happens to be the lens mount I chose.
Part 1 was how I got here, part 2 was about the sensor, and part 3 was about the many tweaks make in this gen II A7V.
This post here? Sample images.
I inadvertently made this easy and hobbled the A7C II a bit.
Easy.
Duke Gardens. It is hard to take a bad picture in this place. One of the reasons I come back to it time and time again. Also served as a level set in photo taking experience and scenes to compare to gear before it.
Hobbled.
As much as makes no sense one of my favorite 50mm lenses for this Sony camera is a Canon lens. Specifically the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM.
Why hobbled? Well courtesy of the MC11 adapter it technically works, but there are compromises.
- Video AF is off of the table.
- MF shortcuts like automatic magnification are off of the table.
- AF is slowed down considerably from a native AF Sony lens.
So why do I mess with it? Easy.
- I have another 50mm lens for “real” work with none of these shortcomings.
- Ever since I first used this lens (version II) with a Canon DSLR back in 2018 I have loved the images that this lens produces.
So when I recently had another brief dance with a Canon DSLR, SLR, and lenses it is the sole piece of Canon EF gear I kept. It is a lens that also survived a native Sony 50mm-ish lens herd sell off. A lot of words to say that I really like this lens.
The images.
Thoughts.
I do not have much to say other than I like this lens and I am glad I held onto it.
Oh, and the camera. Above the tweaks mentioned in my last post on this camera I really like the images that the A7C II produces.
Happy capturing.
