I was running an errand for my Mom. Brought along a favorite pairing.
The assumption with Leica gear is that it is prohibitively expensive. And for the most part,… it is. Especially if you are a rational person. But, if you are irrational… and patient. Very patient in my case… years in fact… some retailer might allow a transaction price for a body that is not completely insane. KEH specifically in my case. Bargain grade helped. And a supportive spouse was key in my case.
Without her encouragement, I would have never purchased the 240. Which is good, because that M3 used above put me in a bad way. Yes, I can use rangefinder lenses adapted to mirrorless. But ever since that M3, I wanted a full frame digital rangefinder. Notice I said a full frame digital rangefinder and not a Leica. Landed on Leica because I was not interested in an APS-C variant, so the M8, Pixii, and Epson offerings were out. And a self destructing sensor was not an option so no M9 for me. So hello M 240. Similarly, I did not say a Leica lens. The Voigtlander above…
…as well as others…
…showed me that non Leica glass would do just fine.
I considered both lenses above for the M 240 but due to my ZEISS problem, I went a different way.
This lens is small for a relatively fast 50mm lens, is well built, looks good, and has fantastic IQ.
On to the photos.
Another successful errand run and vintage digital fit.
While I still struggle to get my hands fully around it I take different photos when I use a rangefinder. Why? I am glad I imagined you asked… I do not know. But to me rangefinder photos are more dramatic…
…and I like it. Does it make sense? Does it justify the asking price in a rational sense? Heck no. But I like it.
Happy capturing.
