My second to last roll of Harman Phoenix 200. I was so happy there was a brand new film instead of a repackaged/rebranded film I went kind of overboard. At first the red hue seemed fun ,but it got old pretty quickly if I am honest. Not the film’s fault. I am just a straightlaced film stock kind of a guy. Like I stated in my last post…
…I am more of a Kodak Gold 200, Lomography 100/400/800, Fujifilm 400, and more recently CatLABS X FILM 100 Color kind of a guy.
In addition to the hue I also noticed that Phoenix 200 seemed to lack as much dynamic range as other films and did better with more light. Oddly of the cameras I tried it with the two that did best were the Konica C35 siblings. The Konica C35 AF2 and the…
I like this camera. Why? I am glad I imagined that you asked.
- It has a rangefinder and I have a well documented rangefinder problem.
- It looks good.
- It feels good.
- With all this, it is also inexpensive.
A nice smaller sibling to the decidedly more fancy pants M mount Konica Hexar RF.
A camera I prefer over the more well known Canon Canonet QL17 GIII. A camera I no longer own. Am I saying that the Konica C35 Automatic is “better” than the Canonet? No. One can definitely make a case for the Canonet. But for me, I prefer the Konica.
Back to the film.
Went on to kill a roll of film. Once again developed with Cinestill CS41 and scanned the film. Nothing Earth shattering. Photos taken just knocking about. Here are the results.
I will call the remainder of this series, “I am obsessed with this clock tower evidently.”
Last thoughts.
I like this film. It would be more accurate to say that I am appreciative that this film exists. More specifically that I appreciate a rare bit of newness in what has become the also ran exercise of rebranding/repackaging existing film. Still like it. But after I finish one remaining roll I will likely revert back to the trusted films listed above. With the occasional deviation to test the next new thing comes along anyways.
Well done Harman.
Happy capturing.
