35mmc strikes again.
Minding my own business and they hit me with not one (News Announcement), but two (Film Test Review) posts. Both well written posts. A great story was told. I am a fan of Ilford…
…and this film is Ilford adjacent. Created by the parent company under their own banner. But in the end two things stood out.
- This is a new from scratch film rather than a possibly modified repackaged existing film.
- I really like the sample photos.
I am keen to support a brand new film. Especially from a company I like. But it was the look that drew me in. Have created blog posts about some other interesting films. Some are fun. Great for when I am looking for something different. But they all tended to bit too dramatic for regular use. The sample photos I saw were subtle enough that I would not mind using Phoenix for daily use.
So I ordered some… ok a lot. My go-to film retailers and my local camera shop did not have any in stock. But B&H and another new to me retailer did have it in stock. And today my local camera shop received some also. Cool. The B&H lot arrived first.
And I immediately ran a test roll through a recent favorite combination.
I promptly developed the film with Cinestill CS41…
…and scanned the film. Here are the results.
Last thoughts.
I like this film…. Good thing. Because in my optimism and impatience I bought quite a bit of it. There will be more to come. As I write this I am waiting on the second developed roll of film to dry so I can scan it. After viewing the negatives I can already tell that this film can now be added to my list of favorites.
Well done Harman.
Happy capturing.
