Too many under-perform because they pursue some predetermined norm or desire to conform.
One must divorce themselves from the notion that the words normal and optimal are synonymous.
Normal is a destination most often occupied by those afflicted with fear, insecurity and/or intellectual sloth.
Optimal requires a desire to do something not just differently for the sake being different, but far better than it has ever been done before.
