Singing, A Corporate MLK Event, And A Gifted Author & Speaker, Jonathan Eig: Scenes Seen w/ a RICOH GRIIIx.

Subtitle: A Singing Engagement That Blessed Us.

A small ensemble of our chorus was invited to sing two songs at a corporate event honoring Martin Luther King, Jr.

We were welcomed.

We were treated to a Q&A session with LabCorp staff on matters regarding diversity…

…that was so inspiring that it had me pondering about applying here post retirement in the near future. But I decided to slow my horses on that one.

But the highlight of the event was key note speaker and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jonathan Eig.

LabCorp MLK Event

A literal scholar and a gentleman. He held us all at attention by regaling us with his experiences while creating his book, King: A Life.

He expressed his main intention.

Humanizing a legend.

Paraphrasing for sure, but he shared that by hallowing a man, you hollow him.

Jonathan Eig’s intention was to share that, in addition to his accomplishments and great influence, Dr. King was human. Not to bring Dr. King down, but to bring him closer. Make him relatable and thereby more accessible.

He then went on to share stories about those who influenced Dr. King. Those who helped mold him. Those who lifted him up. And also how those who feared him attempted to undermine him.

What a great respite from the madness that litters my screens nowadays.

I was so moved that I approached Jonathan to share my gratitude after he spoke, and I have already ordered my signed copy of the book from his website. They are available here.

I will stop myself here after saying this. After hearing Jonathan Eig speak I highly recommend picking up a copy of his book.

I very much look forward to receiving and reading my copy.

The photos.

The tool of the day was a favorite little gem that is perfect for occasions like this.

Perfect for those times when photography is not the main thing, but you do not want to sacrifice image quality.

Before I close, I will share more photos from the event.

A great event.

A reminder to choose what you consume wisely. That which is free comes at the cost of one’s peace.

While we must be informed, we also need to take a break from media death scrolling. We need to seek out that which feeds us. That which builds us, not that which tears us down.

Happy capturing.
