Scenes Seen: Sony ZV-1 & 5 Pictures.
Subtitle: So much competence in such a tiny package.
I hold this little camera in high regard. I have recommended it to many.
While pitched as a vlogging tool, I find it to be quite a capable stills solution. Great capabilities…
- Useful 24-70mm full frame equivalent focal length.
- Bright f/1.8 to f/2.8 aperture.
- IBIS.
- This and the last two are the reasons I prefer ot over the ZV-1 II, which loses IBIS, has a wider focal length for vlogging that I do not prefer for stills, and has a smaller aperture.
- Sharp lens.
- Genuinely tiny.
- Does not cost an arm and a leg.
- Can actually be found in abundance new or used (My preference.).
…no hype.
As I shared in one of my last posts…
…I took it out and about yesterday. My usual Monday chorus run. But this night I had quite a bit of main kit in tow…

…since I was capturing the last of a set of chorus headshots. I captured most chorus members before rehearsal a couple of weeks ago.

Got two more last week.

And last night I brought everything out again to capture the one remaining headshot.
I considered being a bit lazy and bringing a smaller kit, but consistency was more important to me ultimately. With all of that kit for that purpose, I threw the smallest digital camera I own in my hoodie pocket. Then later when I ran outside to get my music binder before a particularly complicated piece, I took notice of a few scenes. Scenes seen if you will. Five pics in total that distracted me before I returned to rehearsal.
Thoughts.
I set up all of my cameras the sme regardless of brand.
Memory slot one on all is a catch-all shutter priority configuration that uses AF for cameras that can keep up and a manually focused hyperfocal setup for those that cannot. Sony is a brand that can keep up, including this little wonder.
Memory slot two on all is monochromatic mode. For Sony, I use a tweaked B&W preset and JPEG only. And across all of their cameras, I really like the images that this mode creates.
That about wraps things up. For further comments on the camera, I recommend the link to a ramble fest I posted at the top.
Happy capturing.
