First Positive Feedback Is In: A Conversation with Hamish Gill Of 35MMC – The madness in the world, community, hobbies and interests as distractions.

Subtitle: Your village will often be revealed, not chosen.

Hamish informed me that this video will soon be shared by a great film-focused podcast series. Mor eto come when that is published.

Before I share the feedback… About that subtitle.

Largely owing to a flat affect and a baritone deadpan, I was occasionally referred to as Spock in my teen years. But I am indeed human. As such, when I posted about this podcast, I was taken aback a bit by the deafening silence that followed. It could be that the algorithm is not serving me well, but it garnered fewer likes on my blog, fewer likes on Instagram, and utter silence on Facebook. Things were better on 35MMC, where kind regulars showed up right away. But it was FB that surprised me the most. And not in a good way. Unlike other platforms, this is where family and friends do dwell. Folks I have known for years, many for decades, and some my entire life. And crickets for a couple of days. Then the Michael Young chimed in on FB.

Honestly, this made me so happy. And I responded as such.

Michael Young I must also add that having someone as accomplished as you comment first and so positively means a lot. More and more, I am learning that our villages are revealed as we move along this journey called life, and are often not who you think they will be. Thank you.

And then, soon after, another talented photographer I met through a FB community chimed in.

That is it so far. And it is more than enough. They are who I will focus on.

I am not upset at anyone. This life is hard, and I will not project any insecurities I may struggle with as I look to expand my horizons on anyone else. And these things called emotions (yick, emotions) that I am experiencing are likely owing to self doubt tied to trying something new.

Even though this happens to be the fourth time I have been invited to participate on a podcast. Two times years ago because of a music project I put out, and most recently having to do with photography.

Now that I think about it, that received a muted response initially on FB as well. Oh well.

This just served as a reminder not to place my well-being in the hands of others. Always good to remember this. Although external validation is beneficial, ultimately, it is my responsibility at the end of the day.

On to the comments on 35MMC.

Thoughts.

One actually.

What often matters most is not everyone and everything around you, but where you choose to focus your attention.

Happy capturing.
