Analog Therapy/Film Test: Pentax 17 – Arista EDU 200 – & A Camera Comparison.

This is my first roll of Arista EDU 200. Have already tried Arista EDU DX 400... Twice. And both were a success.

So expectations were high, and it did not disappoint.

The camera. A favorite of mine.

The occasion.

Pics for a four comparison blog post.

Two cameras served as a digital v film half frame show down.

X Half Comparison

Ok. There was no showdown. I tend not to pick winners. Instead, I point out differences and what I like about each. And the same pllied her. Developed with Cinestill df96.

Here are the pics. Thoughts after.

Pentax 17
Mistakenly left it in Auto instead of Macro… Hence the pic being out of focus and the flash firing. I still like it.

Diptych! I like diptychs.

Went back and rescanned the negative so these two were in the same diptych.

Thoughts.

Another successful analog therapy session.

The film?

Just like Arista EDU DX 400, I like it. You see it, right?

Reasonably sharp.

I was thrown a bit by this being a 24 roll of film, unlike the 400. Actually, a benefit here. I was dreading working my way to 72 frames as I wanted to develop the roll of film for the camera comparison. I was relieved when the roll called it quits much earlier.

I will be using it again.

400 seemed sharper at first. Then I remembered this was taken with a half-frame camera, so it had less surface area to work with. While we are talking about the camera.

Scanning for diptychs.

Half-frame cameras scan two negatives at a time. Hence the diptychs. Some I like and I keep. When you are seeing single images, I duplicated and cropped the image in Lightroom. Duplicate images occur when I liked the image as half of a diptych, but also believed the image could stand on its own. Decided arbitrarily as I work my way through the images. In the case of the shoeshine chair from two angles, the order fell in a way that did not include both, so I went back and manually scanned the two frames.

The sharpness of this lens pays dividends by making the most of the relatively tiny surface area. In most cases, these images held up just fine sitting next to the same image captured with the whole 35mm frame.

Until next time.

Happy capturing.
