Fujifilm Face Off Series. Part 3: Fashion and Film. A Friendly Comparison Between The GFX100RF & GA645.

Subtitle: This is all nonsense done for fun.

Recently wrote about a four Fujifilm camera back to back photo test at Duke Gardens.

I wrote a high level summary of all four cameras in that post. Here I wanted to spend a little time comparing the GFX100RF to the other three Fujfilm cameras.

This is not a this is a better than that post. More like what they have in common and what is unique about both.

This post is about the old guard. The medium format film camera that won out over all others

Fujifilm GA645 Professional

What do they have in common?

This one is easy. Almost too easy.

  • Point and shoot medium format cameras.
  • Wide lenses.
    • Full frame equivalent of 37.245mm on the GA645 and 28mm on the GFX100RF.
    • Both capture so much detail that cropping is available after the fact.
  • f/4 aperture.
    • Seems slow when speaking in full frame terms. But both offer subject isolation courtesy of the large image capturing surface area.

GFX100RF
  • Proper AF point and shoot cameras.
    • Manual control if you like but both were made to burn through glorious high detail images.
  • Feel.
    • Both feel great in hand.
  • Wonderful IQ.
    • I love the lenses on both of these cameras.
  • Accurate AF.
  • Accurate exposure.

Differences.

  • GA645 has a built in flash.
    • In isolation, I could see the X100RF as being a spiritual successor to this camera also.
  • The obvious one. GA645 is a film camera.

Thoughts.

Other than the image capturing media, these cameras both offer wonderful solutions that get out of the way and allow you capture som epleasing images.

As I said earlier, I will not be choosing a “winner”. Just having fun and sharing some thoughts.

I would happily use either. Any preference would be based on mood that that and situation.

Welp. That is it for now. More nonsense comparisons as a distraction to come.

Happy capturing.
