Scenes Seen: A SIGMA DG HSM f/1.4 ART Pairing.

What is in a name?

Well, quite a bit if it is the name of a SIGMA lens, evidently.

  • DG = Full Frame.
  • HSM = Hyper Sonic Motor.
    • Aka the motor used in DSLR era SIGMA lenses, including ones like the 35mm variant I have.
    • I was today years old when I learned that the DN used in the name of their build for mirrorless lenses stands for “Digital Neo”. This refers to the use of more modern step motors that are silent. The HSM lenses above seem as fast but emit a fair bit of clicking in AF-C mode. Noticeable in video mode, less so for stills. Not all lenses have both a HSM and DN mirrorless versions.
  • ART = SIGMA declaring we are fancy now.

Earlier, I put up two posts about a march I went to in Raleigh. One analog and one digital. Gear talk was not top of mind at all, given the proceedings. Here I will revert to type for photos taken before and after the march. The lenses…

Lens 1.

SIGMA DG HSM 35mm f/1.4 Art.

As said in the first…

…and second post on this lens.

As stated in those posts, the lens is great. The pics.

Before the march.

Lens 2.

SIGMA DG HSM 104mm f/1.4 Art.

The pics. All before the march. Using a melee weapon of a lens like this for scenes seen is absurd, admittedly… which is right up my alley. What better way to work out my forearms?

In short, I really like these two lenses.

Happy capturing.
