Scenes Seen At Chorus Rehearsal: GFX + Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f/1.2.
Subtitle: Adapted M Posed People Pic Experiment.
As stated in a recent post…
…after giving a lot of attention to modern cameras with modern luxuries like AF, I needed a rangefinder lens fix. Also mentioned in that post that after letting go of my rangefinder camera…
…the GFX stepped up as my new rig to put behind this wonderful lens. A lens that regularly creates images that drop my jaw.
But I have noticed something. I take pics of stuff with the combination, but other than a few occasions…
…unlike with the M 240,…
…not of people. But no formal pics so far. Just candid. Standard rangefinder stuff. To address this, I brought it along to chorus rehearsal last night.
We are learning a particularly challenging piece that I happen to be leading this Saturday, so at one point we were sent out to different spaces by section to practice amongst ourselves. At one point us baritones were sent with the bass section to a photography classroom to rehearse. Needless to say, I was immediately distracted.
And at the end, I was able to do a solid for one of our younger members. Nashon.

As I mentioned in a recent post…
…I hear some giving young people a hard time. I wish these folks would spend more time talking with these young people rather than talking about them. I do not know about you but I did not have the smoothest transition into adulthood and it was the support and encouragement of my elders that got me through it, not their judgment and criticism. And I did not have a pandemic sat in the middle of my development years. Not only is Nashon an advocate but he is a long time member of 100 Men In Black Male Chorus since his youth…
…and is starting a line of merchandise. He asked and I have agreed to take photos for this effort of his. And last night we had ourselves a bit of serendipity. I had this kit that I wanted to test taking some posed people pics with and Nashon and two other younger members had his branded T-shirts on. So I grabbed them for some quick pics at the end of rehearsal.
Here are the images from last night.
And then I was squirreled by the photo equipment.
And now the quick posed people pics.
Thoughts.
Welp. For candid people and pics of stuff where AF is not needed? The Nokton 40mm f/1.2 all day.
Posed people pics turned out fine,… but I will return to the native solutions going forward.
GF 50mm f/3.5.
GF 80mm f/1.7
I will say this though. Acquiring focus was not an issue at all. Which considering the task at hand is impressive. I owe it all to FUJIFILM’s two screen MF aid.
Well done, FUJIFILM.
Well done, Voigtlander.
Happy capturing.
