Analog Therapy: Fujifilm GA645 + Cinestill BWXX.

Yesterday’s much-needed early evening analog therapy run went well.

But it could have gone sideways easily. To better my chances this evening, I went with:

  • A camera with autofocus and auto exposure.
  • Film that was not expired.

Onward.

This one will be short and sweet. Just forced myself through a roll of film as a distraction. Used a favorite camera of mine.

Fujifilm GA645 Professional
Fujifilm GA645 Professional

A high quality film medium format camera with accurate autofocus, accurate auto exposure, an impeccable lens, and a built in flash all in a compact body that is light in hand and can be thrown in a camera bag pocket suitable for a small zoom… What’s not to like?

The film for the day was Cinestill BWXX. The last outing with this pairing…

…resulted in this pic…

…that was discussed at about the 53 minute mark in a recent podcast interview.

This evening pics were taken while out and about. I managed to run out of color 35mm film so a quick trip to th ecamera shop was in order. For the photo subject this evening, I chose a quick spin around the town the camera shop is in. Used at ISO 200, and it should come as no surprise that it works well with Cinestill df96.. Nothing Earth shattering. Here are all 16 exposures.

Credit to Robert Carl Swann for the pic above. I usually do not like having my photo taken. I handed the GA645 to Robert soon after entering so he could take a look at it, quickly rambled that after popping the flash the only way to force flash is to use aperture priority, got to yapping about cameras with Tommy (More on that in my next post.), and while distracted, Robert took this. Cool. It is quite handy to know great photographers.

Now for that quick walk around Carrboro.

Thoughts.

An aside. It is a good thing that I develop my own film. Around $20 for a bottle of df96 and it will develop upwards of 20 rolls in my experience. My local camera shop charges a very reasonable $10 a roll to develop black and white film. So the 6 rolls of film I have developed so far would have cost me $60 instead of $20. Even less as I continue developing more rolls. Scanning myself also saves another $10 a roll. My V600 paid for itself years ago. If I had to pay for that also those 6 rolls would have risen to $120. If I had not started developing my own film… I am not so sure I would be using film much, if at all. And we are back to our program in 3, 2, 1…

Another successful, and much needed world on fire and all, analog therapy session.

Happy capturing.
