So… The RICOH GRIV… Glad The GR Lives On.
A common theme on this space is that I do not mind, and often prefer older gear. Latest and greatest is not usually a draw for me. The same applies here.
Watched and read a bit about the GRIV.

Some seem surprised and/or disappointed that the changes are few…
You do know the only difference between the OG GR and the GRII is that Bluetooth was added, right?
Me?
I’m just glad that RICOH is continuing to support the GR line.
It may just be abandonment issues after another company unceremoniously abandoned a product like I had bought into.
But I grow concerned about buying into a system to only have the company discontinue the product.
The lack of added features is not a concern. I got along with the OG GR just fine…
…before handing it off to my son.
My main motivation for getting the third generation model have little to do with latest and greatest:
- New camera warranty.
- GR IIIx name brings the preferred 40mm full frame equivalent.
- Not available yet with the newest IV version, though I imagine it will be available down the road.
- Less crucially I dig the Street color scheme.
- Not available yet with the newest IV version, though I imagine it will be available down the road.
The new model does have changes:
- Newer sensor with slightly greater resolution.
- Higher ISO.
- Moved the switchgear about a bit.
These do not move the needle for me.
So to recap.
- I prefer the 40mm x variant.
- I like GR IIIx and street livery that will likely be released much later for IV.
- I am glad they released the GR IV.
After closing, I will share a few recent sample GRIIIx images.
Happy capturing.
