Cesar Invited Me To A Low Rider Show – Part 4: GFX + TTArtisan 90mm f/1.25.

Subtitle: A tale of two Fujifilm cameras.

To start us off let me state that Cesar is that dude.

GFX - Low Rider Show

Good people and he walks what he talks.

Exhibit A:
When I had my first photography show, he reached out on social media and said he was attending… and he attended.

Exhibit

As did representatives of my brothers from 100 Men In Black Male Chorus.

Exhibit

Now look… I do not fault nor do I hold grudges regarding those that do not respond, attned, or support when asked whether family and friend. Would it be nice? Yes. But no one owes me a thing. That is exactly why those that think it not robbery to show up and support a brother hold a special place as far as I am concerned.

Back to the task at hand. The low rider show. Another note. Not only does Cesar show up but he reaches out. For whatever reason I seem unable to stay on top of events no matter how I try. I typically find out as thiings are going iin or even after the fact. So I will ask those in the know and once again Cesar is the only one that does. Other family and friends have not, and once again I hold no grudges. But I appreciate Cesar the more. There was a photo walk Cesar and I went on.

Chris Facey is another real one and we met up for a photo walk.

There was another low rider show Cesar told me about.

There was a march in Durham.

I have also received much support from folks I met online far and near, but it’s also nice to have local folks you can meet up with in real-time. And now back to the subject of this day.

I have moved past the sledgehammer to drive in a thumbtack thing. It is simply this. While not necessary I prefer medium format and I have found two solutions that I have been fortunate enough to obtain that meet my needs. No more. No less.

Thiis post here is about the lens that regularly creates images that drop my jaw in my GFX kit.

GFX

I wrote a post about it. Want to read it? Here it go.

Here are the photos from this day with this lens.

I rushed. Missed focus. Still very happy with the result.

Thoughts.

Respectfully TTArtisan what in the whole heck? Admittedly I am a fan of other TTArtisan lenses. You have your inexpensive, fast manual focus tilt lens.

They made my resident fisheye lens.

Most recently a small AF portrait lens that I really like.

And I have owned plenty of M mount TTArtisan lenses before making the shift to Voigtlander. I really liked those lenses, but this lens feels far better . I say this because I first saw this lens in full frame M mount form. But it seemed a bit large and the focal length a bit long to be a good fit for me on an M body. But it is a perfect fit on GFX, where lenses tend to be much larger than this. Add to that a very fast aperture equalling a full frame equivalent of f/0.9875. AT $599 new and in my case almost half that used and this lens was a no-brainer. Had thought this might be a stopgap lens as I save my coins and convince myself to trade some other kit for a GF110mm f/2 down the road. But now? I am thinking I am done. Using the images above it is plenty sharp wide open, easy to focus accurately with the FUJIFILM manual focus aids….

GFX

…and I love the colors and bokeh. And I hear tell that if I ever convince myself to close the lens down it is even sharper and it will be even easier to focus as well. Yeah. For now, I am good.

Great fun and great results while I am at it. Well done FUJIFILM. And once again, thank you Cesar for the invite.

Happy capturing.
