Scenes Seen: Perfecting My Memory Slot 1 Preset & Memories Of My Father.
As previously stated, I really like this camera.
As stated previously this is the daily carry camera I have been looking for.
As I have been familiarizing myself with the camera I have also been refining my Memory Slot 1 Preset. I set up the first two slots on all of my digital cameras the exact same way.
- Rapid fire.
- Black and White.
Slot two was easy. Set it to black and white, tweak contrast and sharpness to my liking, and set it to JPEG to force me to commit. Slot one was easy with the OG GR my son has now.
Largely owing to the 28mm full frame equivalent and not relying on AF. A 28mm field of view makes it easy to use f/2.8 and still get a lot of stuff in focus. On cameras with snappier and more accurate AF, <cough> my Sony camera <cough>, I let the camera sort it out. But with cameras with mortal AF, like the OG GR and even the improved GRIII range, I use MF. To capture a broader focus range I went with f/6.3 and one step back from Infinity to keep most everything in focus with the GIIIx’s 40mm full frame equivalent field of view. Enough of that.
The where was out and about.
I.E. The exact use case intended for this camera.
Nothing Earth shattering. As it says on the tin, scenes seen. The images.
Two of my vehicular obsessions come from my Father. Driving tractor trailers is how he chose to earn a living. As he corrected me when I referred to him as a truck driver once. “I am not defined by my profession. a truck driver. I am a man who decided to drive trucks to support is family.” Similarly I did not allow my chosen means of earning a living to define who I was either.
Second is fire trucks because my Father was a volunteer fireman for years where I grew up. The fire station in upstate NY even honored him when he passed away.
So if possible to this day I take a picture of any Fire Truck I come across.
While we are at it, I will also take pictures of old pickup trucks when I come across them, courtesy of the ’63 Chevy Slant 6, three-on-the-tree manual, pick-up truck I learned to drive with, and his short-bed F150 with the Mustang 5.0.
Happened to be helping my daughter with some car troubles. Near everything ties back to my Dad. He did business here and the good will towards him has been inherited. He brought smiles to their faces as he did everywhere he went and since he passed I graduated to Mr. Eric status taking over the mantle from Mr. Ralph. A similar transition occurred at all of the businesses we both frequent. Car wash, lawn mower and small engine repair shop, and more. He left friends wherever he went. A great shop by the way, if you are in the area. Always give you a fair price and excellent service. Got my daughter out of the door the same day with a quickly diagnosed and fixed repair.
And we are back from our commercial break.
Thoughts.
One word. Unobtrusive. Most all of these pics were taken on the fly. No stops. No interruption of proceedings. Camera in hand, point it, snap, and keep it moving.
Happy capturing.
