Scenes Seen/A Celebration of Black Music: Sony ZV-1… The Companion Camera.

I really like this little camera.

Sony ZV-1
Sony ZV-1.

I say it is the camera I bring when photography is not the main thing, but compactness and discretion are. But it is still a solid stills device. This was proved out recently when, even though I had a bag of MFT gear, it was the only camera I was using by the end of the evening.

And of course it does not hurt that it is also great for its intended purpose, video. Used for both here, but this post is about the stills.

The occasion was a Celebration of Black Music at a local church. It was a wonderful time. The chorus I am a part of, 100 Men In Black Male Chorus Ensemble, and others shared music and two young gave Black music trivia in between. It was a wonderful time.

I got a bit distracted in the parking lot of the church.

On my way in I switched to a Black and White JPEG profile which seemed to fit the mood of the proceedings.

Is it a “perfect” camera?

No. Of course not. No such a thing exists.

So what is it for?

  • When you just want the pic.
  • When there is no time to set the camera up. Choose the closest preset for the situation and go.
  • When you have to hand it off to someone else.
  • When you want a quality video clip with no muss or fuss.
  • When you do not want to be noticed so as not to disturb a candid moment.

A perfect companion camera.

As stated previously in this space a camera that fully embraces good enough image quality in a truly portable package. It does not displace other more “serious” gear. I go into this in greater length in my last post of this camera.

Well done Sony.

Another successful fit of capturing scenes seen.

Happy capturing.
