Image Capturing Therapy: Two Films, Stranger Portraits, Some Vintage Digital Action, & Grief. Part 2 – Panasonic Lumix DMC GF1.
This post covers the vintage digital part of the afternoon.
Starting with the last bit. Grief.
Had been surprised that missing my Father was not as crushing during these holidays as it has been the last few years since losing him. Cleared Thanksgiving. Cleared Christmas. Then yesterday melancholy set in and I realized I had not captured a single frame in days. This is not like me. Found myself back in that old conundrum I have written about before.
Don’t feel right when I don’t shoot. Don’t shoot when I don’t feel right.
Wrote a whole post about it when my Father’s health was in decline.
There is a bright spot. There is a simple fix. Not necessarily an easy one, however.
Simple part: Go take pictures.
Not so easy part: Actually getting myself to do it.
So. I basically forced myself to leave the house.
Destination.
Local downtown area at dusk.
Tools.
Along with a film camera, I brought a favorite vintage digital sidekick used with two lenses.
Great compact and light inexpensive gear capable of taking a fine image. Film was the focus of the afternoon but I did manage a few photos here and there where I either did not feel like burning a frame of film or had decided two rolls of film was weenough for the day. Nothing Earth shattering. Here they are.
Starting with the 14-42mm Power Zoom.
This pic above had a car and a reflection in it. Hit it with the AI remove tool in Lightroom and it was gone. Original image below.
Let me first say that I like the 14-42mm Power Zoom… but this 20mm f/1.7 is just a gem. No comparison. Take a look at the pic above and then take a look at this first one here.
Sa-woon. What a great little overachieving lens. In this case, a prime pays real dividends.
Thoughts.
Highly underrated. I am of the opinion that many spend far more than they need to and others who hold out would do just fine with this gear. And it fits in a cargo pant, jacket, or hoodie pocket with ease.
Welp.
That is all for now.
Happy capturing.
