My Top 5 Viewed Posts Of 2024. A Bit Surprising.
I am not sure if you can tell, but I have no real game plan here. I basically write whatever lingers in my mind for too long to forget by the time I get to a keyboard.
I also have no crystal ball as to what will resonate with those who stumble upon my page.
Things that one would think would garner interest are not viewed that often. Often goofball products or random neural firings seem to land well. Two years ago my most viewed post had to do with an abandoned SIGMA sensor technology.
Last year and this year a post about the same lens topped the list. The funny part is that I do not even own this lens any more. A great lens. But I went in a different direction. Now that I think about it I no longer own nor did I purchase any of the top 5 post subjects. All fine products. There is a lot of great stuff out there.
Welp. Enough preamble. Here are the posts from last to first with some brief thoughts. For giggles I will add what I like about the items and why I no longer have them.
5.
What I like about it.
It is a great lens. Small,…
…affordable, versatile, with great IQ.
Why I no longer have it.
Sold it off with my pandemic time distraction Olympus MFT kit. When I bought back in to MFT recently I went with the Panasonic equivalent instead.
A better fit for the GF1 I purchased around the same time. Not only due to the brand, but it brought O.I.S. to the table for the non IBIS having GF1.
4.
What I like about it.
It is a vintage gem. Great glass. Full frame. Great IQ.
Why I no longer have it.
A great camera. But a poor fit for its intended use case. An inexpensive daily carry camera. Main issue was the size. Another solution was settled on in the end.
3.
What I like about it.
It is a Pentax… more. Ok. As mentioned in the post I have great respect and appreciation for the IQ and performance of Pentax cameras.
Why I do not have it.
Easy. It does not exist. The post was written in response to a rumored camera that has yet to see the light of day. If they did release it would I but it?
No.
For the why see the comments on the Canon DSLR above. While I am glad Pentax is keeping the DSLR flame alive it has become clear that I have moved on.
2.
What I like about it.
This is a great lens. It’s a good-looking piece of kit that performs far above its price point and humble provenance.
Why I no longer have it.
I found another lens that was a better fit for me that actually displaced three M mount lenses when the dust settled.
1.
Cue the confetti and trumpets.
Why I like it.
A great lens. No caveats.
Why I no longer have it.
No fault of the lens. If you are looking for a fixed 40mm lens for Sony look no further. Me? On the one side I preferred the Tamron 20-40mm f/2.8…
…to replace the 40mm f/2.5 G and Tamron 17-28mm. On the more compact size I purchased the truly compact and quite remarkable pancake Remaster Slim kit.
Thoughts.
Only one really.
There are a lot of great products on the market. Especially when you take older but still viable gear into consideration.
Also this has been another great year for my blog. While post views came down a bit from last year I am not surprised. Last year was unprecedented for me. 2023 saw nearly twice as many post views as 2022. This came as a great shock last year. To expect that to happen again this year would be ridiculous. That kind of sustained growth is improbable if not impossible. It is not like I am a Bitcoin or EV maker stock over here. Unlike those this has been a nice natural organic increase and I would have it no other way. While not as high as last year I am still trending upwards since I started at many more views and visits over 2022. I am curious to see what happens next year.
I have some new things coming on the voice side of things. A prominent voice coach…
…has offered to take me on as a client and I quickly accepted. We start work together in the new year. On the photography side I have a wedding booked already and another possible booking already. Nice. Great things ahead.
To all that have taken time to stop through this space.
Thank you.
All good news.
Happy New Year!
Happy capturing.
