A Lovely Little Lens: Voigtlander Color-Skopar 21mm f/4 VM P.
I did not expect to like this lens this much.
Why? I am glad I imagined you asked.
Two words. Humble spec.
I will throw in two words. Small size.
Ok… two more. Low price.
Small, relatively inexpensive lenses bring compromises typically.
A good for their size and/or price scenario.
There are caveats. Magenta fringing with digital M bodies if one does not at least apply the Leica 21mm f/2.8 profile and is only fully cleaned up if one also applies the Lightroom Voigtlander Color-Skopar 21mm f/4 VM P lens profile. But once aware of this, both are easy asks. Especially considering the next topic.
Wonderful IQ.
This is not what I expected. I love the way this lens renders a scene. The colors, the sharpness, the 3D pop, so on and so forth. Lovely.
All in a lens so small that it can be thrown in a pants pocket. And small enough that it makes for a very compact camera and lens pairing. And while small it is well built at that. Nice.
It effectively replaced a lens with the same focal length, but a much brighter aperture. A great lens. But I do not miss it at all. I much prefer the small size at play here. This much more closely matches what I expected from a rangefinder camera form factor wise.
Enough of that.
Here are photos taken out and about last night. We were having a rehearsal to prepare us to sing at the funeral of a former member this Saturday. Rest well Brother Anthony. Big Anthony, you will be missed.
It was great to have past members return as we prepare to honor Anthony. Here are the pics from the evening.
Thoughts.
Well done Voigtlander.
Happy capturing.
