Scenes Seen: Two Cameras (GXR/A7C). A Birthday. Same Photographer.

Not long ago I wrote a post declaring that I will mention modern gear less. Well… you see it in the title. I am mentioning the gear used.

RICOH GXR A12 28mm f/2.5
GXR + 28mm
Sony FE 40mm f/2.5 G
Sony FE 40mm f/2.5 G

Why? I am glad I imagined that you asked.

Previously I had stated that it was because a lens surprised me. That Sony 40mm lens above actually. This time I mention the gear to make a point. Not a big one. A small revelation in two parts.

Two cameras.

I do not use different gear because I think one piece of gear is better than another. I just find it fun. No more. No less. Many cameras are old. The GXR came out in 2009. So much less expensive than newer gear. The A7C is even getting a little long in the tooth by modern standards, being released in 2020 with two replacement models released since. In both cases I am good.

Same photographer.

While the look, feel, specs, and ergonomics vary wildly the user is the same so the results are pretty much the same. So why bother? I guess the same reason those who can have a garage full of many cars. All take you to and fro’ but they appreciate them all. I do not get to say this often regarding camera gear but having different cameras is the lower priced option in this comparison.

The occasion. We were celebrating our son’s 20th birthday. Here are some pics from the day and evening.

Closing thoughts.

Nothing having to do with the cameras. But these images shared and others captured of my family make me really glad I capture images. Photos of my wife, kids, and Mom especially. Looking through that viewfinder I am reminded that life is good.

The main reason I enjoy photography.

Seeing the beautiful things in life masquerading as the mundane.

Happy capturing.
