Revisiting a theme where I stated that I occasionally find myself in a loop of funk. <Cut and paste.> Not the good, Parliament Funkadelics type of funk. The type of funk where you feel a bit off and feel unsure exactly why. The loop for me:
- I feel a bit off so I need to get out and kill some film.
- I am not getting out and killing some film because I feel a bit off.
- Rinse and repeat.
Has to be film. Digital does not quite cut it. If I had to guess it has to do with the whole not sure what you have, enjoy the moment, and meditative qualities of developing and scanning the film… If I had to guess. The main sticking point in the loop is when I do not have anything in mind to capture. This is usually solved in one of two ways when I reach the point that something has to give.
- Take a film camera along wherever I go and take some pics.
- These typically become scenes seen posts.
- Return to a well worn in photo location.
- These typically become analog therapy posts.
<End cut and paste.> This post, like the last, deals with numbers 1 and 2. The camera choice was easy. A recent favorite.
It tagged along with me running some errands and then on a visit to an old haunt to kill the rest of the roll.
This camera is fun and made quick work of it all.
On to the task at hand. Photos.
I decided to try a new film because it exists. Lomography LomoChrome Color ’92 ISO 400, developed with Cinestill CS41. Tried my best to start the roll tight, but I did have a GA645 fat roll on my hands. The resulting roll I snot tight some film edges are exposed. As has been noted elsewhere this seems to happen with Lomography film due to its slick backing paper. Why? No idea. But it rarely, if ever, happened with non Lomography film so far. No big deal. It lets a bit of light in and the top and bottom of some exposures. An easy fix in my book. I either like the look or I crop it in a bit.
Here are the surviving frames followed by my thoughts on the film.
Thoughts.
A fine film. While acknowledging that this is by design, the retro tones are a bit more muted than I would like. This is not a problem, I knew this going in. It just means that it may not be a film I purchase again and I am more of a Kodak Gold 200, Lomography 100/400/800, Fujifilm 400, and more recently CatLABS X FILM 100 Color kind of a guy.
Another successful analog therapy session.
Happy capturing.
