Occasionally I find myself in a loop of funk. Not the good, Parliament Funkadelics type of funk. The type of funk where you feel a bit off and feel unsure exactly why. The loop for me:
- I feel a bit off so I need to get out and kill some film.
- I am not getting out and killing some film because I feel a bit off.
- Rinse and repeat.
Has to be film. Digital does not quite cut it. If I had to guess it has to do with the whole not sure what you have, enjoy the moment, and meditative qualities of developing and scanning the film… If I had to guess. The main sticking point in the loop is when I do not have anything in mind to capture. This is usually solved in one of two ways when I reach the point that something has to give.
- Take a film camera along wherever I go and take some pics.
- These typically become scenes seen posts.
- Return to a well worn in photo location.
- These typically become analog therapy posts.
The first post dealt with number 1. This one deals with number 2. An odd pairing was selected as an added bit of distraction.
Went to my most frequent have no new ideas where to go location. Duke Gardens.
On to the task at hand. Photos.
I chose to start the day with Harman Phoenix 200, developed with Cinestill CS41. I think I have run my course with this film. It is not a bad film. It is just that it seems best suited for when you are looking for something different. I was reminded that this is a film that has a fair amount of grain, can be a little unforgiving exposure-wise, and really likes light, but can be a bit hazy with too much light. So most of the frames with less light available did not make the cut. I am glad they made it and applaud anything new. But when I run out of the stash I bought I am not sure that I will purchase it again. Time will tell.
Here are the surviving frames.
Another successful analog therapy session.
Happy capturing.
