Occasionally I find myself in a loop of funk. Not the good, Parliament Funkadelics type of funk. The type of funk where you feel a bit off and feel unsure exactly why. The loop for me:
- I feel a bit off so I need to get out and kill some film.
- I am not getting out and killing some film because I feel a bit off.
- Rinse and repeat.
Has to be film. Digital does not quite cut it. If I had to guess it has to do with the whole not sure what you have, enjoy the moment, and meditative qualities of developing and scanning the film… If I had to guess. The main sticking point in the loop is when I do not have anything in mind to capture. This is usually solved in one of two ways when I reach the point that something has to give.
- Take a film camera along wherever I go and take some pics.
- These typically become scenes seen posts.
- Return to a well worn in photo location.
- These typically become analog therapy posts.
This first post deals with number 1. The following ones deal with number 2. The camera choice was easy. A recent acquisition and quick favorite.
It tagged along with me running some errands and going to chorus rehearsal. Chorus rehearsal could also be added as a worn in location actually since I take many photos before and after rehearsal.
This camera is fun and made quick work of some scenes seen.
On to the task at hand. Photos.
I chose to start the day with Kodak Gold 200, developed with Cinestill CS41.
CS41 Sidebar: Developed 21 rolls of film with the last batch of CS41. Decided to push things no further and mix a new batch and this is the first roll developed with it. At $5 a pop for development at my local camera shop that would be $100. So at $29 for the CS41 I consider that last batch a pretty good deal.
Here are the surviving frames.
<Insert user error inspired blank exposure here where I am still trying to sort out what I did. All me.>
Another successful analog therapy session.
Happy capturing.
