Another Event, Another Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Post. The Practical Precious.

Had a community event to capture. Did not fully know what to expect. But I did know what lens to bring. The practical precious.

Lens Test - Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD
Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8

Why do I call it the practical precious? Because in all honesty it is the only lens I need for my photography work. It is the best zoom lens I have ever used. Nikon users are in for a treat. Maybe Canon will come around and let other companies make RF lenses. Reaching a 225mm equivalent in crop APS-C mode and 35mm at the wide end it covers just about any situation. I team it with the Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 for the rare occasion that I get backed into a tight space and I am good. But it never saw the light of day. 35mm was plenty wide for my purposes.

Also used the primary precious this day.

Used it also to great effect. The best prime lens I have ever used. But that will be a separate post. I have had a few ask what I think about the since released FE 50mm f/1.4. A fine lens that I might have considered if they had been released in reverse order. But with both available I think the f/1.2 is worth the added expense if you can swing it. If not the f/1.4 would do just fine. Heck, the old timey FE Zeiss 55mm f/1.8

Father's Day

…(Used. For the new price I would get the 50mm f/1.4.) would be fine. Good times.

Cameras

As far as camera bodies go any Sony A7II (First body with IBIS.) or newer model would have done just fine. Are the new bodies better? Certainly. But required? Not in my opinion. I have done just fine with them in the past. That being said the A7RV was used this day.

Location

Was not sure if this would be held inside or out. With a bit of rain setting in I was hoping for an inside venue and it was.

Lighting

It was hosted in a gymnasium that was surprisingly well lit. I brought lights, but they were not needed.

Settings

Set the camera to shutter priority and 1/125s and auto ISO topped out about 3200. With f/2-2.5 and decent light ISOs did not get that high.

The Event

Once again the 35-150mm made easy work of the day. One moment makes the case for the lens by itself. I went from a distant shot at 150mm…

Wrap Up

The 35-150mm f/2-2.8 was the star of the day. I could have easily used this lens by itself. A perfect solution for portraits and events. Here are a few more 35-150mm captures from the day.
