Long title. There is a point.
A product need not be popular or even recent to produce pleasing results.
I did not get this camera at first but it has proven to be an all-time favorite.
I already wrote about this camera many times before but in short:
- It has provided rock solid shot capturing consistency that eventually displaced a beloved DSLR.
- Does the above in a full frame package barely larger than Sony’s own compact APS-C cameras.
It catches flack for its EVF and old menu structure, but it is my most used digital camera ever even including cameras I have owned much longer.
Took me a long time to get this lens but I really like it.
- What was once a very expensive lens for its spec (Personal opinion. My own issue. I will own it.) years later is now quite a good deal used.
- Small in size and weight with image quality rivaling much larger and heavier lenses.
Put them together and you not only find a very relatively small and light pairing…
Sidebar: I noted something Father’s Day. When I handed this pairing off to my wife when my kids insisted that I get into the shot she said something.
“Wow. This is light.”
Why is this significant? This is a fast 50mm-ish lens and full frame camera with stellar focusing that is very user friendly. A far cry from the much loved melee weapon of a DSLR it replaced. Mission accomplished. And we are back in 3, 2, 1…
…but an image capturing solution that makes a suitable alternative for my beloved film cameras. No small feat. So once I ran through the film I had on me I pivoted to this set up. One could argue that I could have used this alone if I were a reasonable man. But as I have repeated often in this space that does not apply here.
On to the images.
