The title pretty much covers it… Ok, a little more.
I occasionally come across lenses that make little sense and will rarely get used but cost so little and are such fun that I pick them up anyway. The TTArtisans FE 11mm f/2.8 is one of those lenses.
Great fun when used for fisheye photography…
…or when corrected (Using the Rokinon 7.5mm Fisheye lens profile in Lightroom.).
All for $150 less than its M mount variant. Why didn’t I go for the M mount variant? I am glad I imagined you asked.
- Because at 11mm focusing is almost unnecessary. Even wide open anything past three feet will be in focus.
- On the rare occasion where I need to focus closer than three feet, I would much rather do so with focus peaking than with a rangefinder. Personal preference.
- And lastly, if I am not focusing or will prefer to use focus peaking why even trouble myself with the extra $150 for the rangefinder version?
This is a rare display of “common sense” even if it is couched in a nonsensical pastime. That being said if I had a Leica M mount camera and no other I would not hesitate to buy the M mount version. Around $350 is an excellent price for an M mount lens.
On this day I had to make a rare, since the pandemic, trip into my office. I decided to take a favorite local route home, which would be an excellent choice on such a beautiful day. Nothing Earth shattering and I have taken similar shots of these same scenes over the years. All images were defisheyed in Lightroom this day. Here are a few.
Happy capturing.
