A Very Brief Exotic Car Show, Goldilens, And Some Reminiscing: Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD

Blog title pretty much covers it. Hears about the car show a couple days ago. Exotic cars. $5 entry fee. Cool. I ended up being the only person from the Meet Up group that went. The setting was a new experience. Th best way I can describe it is this… Imagine a small country club but the country part of the club is replaced by some pretty cool looking garages for folks to store their fancy cars.

I found out something weird though. I used to really be into cars. Exotic car posters on the walls when I was a teenager. Stacks of car magazines from my many monthly auto magazine subscriptions. Dad and I worked on our cars all through my childhood. And not just oil changes and spark plugs. Full tune ups with timing light gun and everything and even pulled a slant 6 out of a ’63 Chevy pickup in the front yard using a birch tree as a winch so my Father’s friend could take it away and rebuild it. We three put it back in the truck using that same tree a few weeks later. The goal of being an automotive engineer was largely why I went to college for an Industrial Engineering degree. Went to plenty car shows in my Upstate NY hometown. Went to the NY City Car Show quite a few times, especially after I moved there.

Have been to a couple since I moved south.

I say all this to say.

I used to like cars a lot.

Why do I say used to? Well, something weird happened a few years ago. I realized my obsession with cars was largely tied to my relationship with my Dad. Since he passed? Not so much. I still like cars. Just not nearly as much. I spend much less time talking about them since I lost my best car talk buddy. I no longer aspire to own fancy versions. Key is their ability to get me from point A to point B. I am perfectly happy with my current modest vehicles. So it was nice to see the cars. Jut not as exciting as it would have been in the past.

Back to the task at hand. I entered and to be polite I asked if it was ok to take pictures of the cars. This is where I was met with a politely presented disappointment. He was unsure some owners would want pictures taken of their cars… What? That is why I came he… You know what? Fine. I am out a Saturday morning’s late slumber and $5. Could be worse. He does add that the cars outside should be fine. Ok then. What? I cleared my head went out and snapped some pics. On the way out folks were snapping pics left and right inside with their phones… Fine. I just kept hoofing it out the front door. No harm. No foul. What else… Oh yeah.

Lens. The Goldilens.

Lens Test - Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD

Really like it. Only lens I need. Have written plenty about it. The only Sony lens I would buy if I could only have one. Chose it this day as I suspected I would be using it outside and they predicted rain. And they were right. Used mostly at 35mm this day. Ok then.

Here are the pics.
